Menertawai Diri Sendiri?

BRIGHTEN2nd

Hayo udah pada ketawa belum hari ini? Ketawa dulu yok,,hahahahaha (awas jangan lebar-lebar nanti ada yang masuk, masuk RSJ :p ). Ngapain sih mas pake ditanya udah ketawa apa belum. Yee… namanya juga baru intro gitu lhoo… -,-

Uhuk, uhuk (bukan batuk beneran)… Menurut para pakar kesehatan tertawa itu bisa jadi bagian olah raga ringan kita lho. Yap, bener banget.

Pasti bakalan…

Dagashi Kashi Punya ‘Pengumuman Penting’ di Bulan Agustus! Season 2?

Mercy and misogyny

Little Stories

Cherry tree in April

The other day, I glimpsed the profile of a young man who was the spitting image of a freckled fundamentalist boy from my childhood. I blanched and suddenly felt a spasm of terror. It wasn’t this boy, grown up (ostensibly because this boy still lives in the basement of his parents’ house), but I was still shaken. On the whole, I had a very happy childhood, and my parents are these lovely, fun human beings, but I dislike being reminded of the community I was raised in: the fundamentalist homeschooling enclave.

Primarily, when I remember that time, I recall the crushing sensation of misogyny. Of existing in a network of people in which you have no agency on account of your gender.

To list all of the overt and subtle misogyny I faced as a homeschooled girl would be exhausting. The anecdotes and comments still rise to the surface, however…

Cinco de Mayo on Cherokee Street

It's JPei

Since visiting Cherokee Street for the first time, I never would’ve thought that I’d be back for their biggest event of the year – Cinco de Mayo celebration! Thanks to some persuasion from Kara, I ended checking out the festivities last Saturday instead of studying for finals…and I don’t regret that decision one bit. It was lively, crowded, colorful, festive. Come walk through it with me…

Plenty of vendors & food booths were set up along the street. What a feast for the stomach and eyes:

Meet Anne: A Slap-In-The-Face Interview With a Child of Surrogacy

jerry-mahoney.com

Last month, I was lucky enough to be invited to speak at the first ever WordPress-sponsored Press Publish conference in Portland, Oregon. While I was there, I met tons of awesome people, but the one who probably sticks out the most to me was a young woman named Anne who spoke to me after my presentation. She wanted me to know that she was born through surrogacy herself. She was curious to meet my kids, because she’d never met anyone else who was born through surrogacy.

Anne Anne

She was a wonderful person — smart, polite, down-to-Earth, and we had a very nice chat. I promised to put her in touch with some people who might be able to help her find other people her age born through surrogacy, and she gave me her card.

But I couldn’t stop thinking about her, because I often wonder how my kids will feel…

White Rage, the Hunger Games, and the Lack of Justice for Eric Garner

Olivia A. Cole

eric garner

Today, like too many days, I am angry. Today a grand jury voted not to bring criminal charges against the white officer who killed Eric Garner, father of six, with a chokehold. The killing is on video, which many people hoped would mean an indictment and, eventually, a conviction. Not so. Today, America tells us once again that the value it places in black life is nil, insubstantial, nonexistent.

The protests have already begun in New York, and I’m thinking about anger, rage. I’m thinking about things that burn. When the grand jury in St. Louis County announced that it would not be indicting Darren Wilson in the killing of unarmed teenager Michael Brown, Ferguson burned. Over the weekend, I saw the latest Hunger Games film—Mockingjay—and in it, the Capitol executes unarmed civilians, their deaths broadcasted for millions of eyes. I couldn’t stop thinking about Eric…
